Servant leader and Benedictine Experience
The two Benedictine values that influenced my growth throughout my studies were Respect for Persons and Service. Throughout my studies, I have learned that leadership is not necessarily about leading but serving. Every team member brings an individual contribution to the team and by bringing forward the Benedictine value of Respect for Persons and Service I have learned to honor individual's gifts and limitations. I incorporate this into my daily routine by rounding with staff and connecting to learn about not only about their professional contribution but connect with them on a personal level.
In healthcare, Respect for Persons is not only essential in a team aspect, but also for the service to others. Service is meeting the needs of others, respecting every individual, and striving to improve overall healthcare. Recognizing individuals and meeting their needs is the value I hold close to my heart and has been my guiding force. The University of Mary has promoted this value throughout my study and has taught me how to serve as a peer and as a leader.

The University of Mary Competencies
Communication
Communication is a key skill in being a successful leader. The University of Mary has taught me how to be an effective communicator and how to display collaborative dialogue while adapting language to different audiences and/or cultures. As I continue as a leader it’s imperative to display communication both orally and written to various audiences while ensuring it is received and interpreted correctly. Through my studies I have learned how to communicate in a strong command and will continue to utilize the standards and infusion that the University of Mary has provided me.
Moral Courage
Integrity is what defines us as leaders and the University of Mary has clarified, supported and promoted what is right and true and tools to ensure both faith or reason are utilized when faced with differing actions or viewpoints. My moral courage has been reinforced by my learnings and continuing my journey with leadership I will bring with me the ability to clarify, support, and defend what is the truth to ensure human dignity, justice, and virtue or supported.
Professional Distinction
Community is an integral part of healthcare as it demonstrates the overall public health. The University of Mary has taught me that population health depends heavily on the healthcare available, service, and/or contributions provided by healthcare organizations. This includes prioritizing the needs and promoting growth within our own communities. As I continue my leadership growth I will bring prioritization to the society around me to provide excellent service to ensure a health community around me.
Scholarship
A large piece of my University of May training was conducting research review and evidence-based practice development. With guidance, I have been able to display skills and dispositions that produce scholarly work and evidence-based practice into everyday practice. With this development I will be able to go on and produce similar work within my organization utilizing appropriate and professional skills to better both patient care and organization workflows.
